Earthrise - Original Painting by Ian Garrett 14x10, ready to hang.

Earthrise depicts the moment Earth comes into view over the Moon's surface. This painting is based on photographs from NASA's Apollo 8 mission, taken by the astronauts on the Moon. Those photos have always filled me with awe. Even more so now, in light of the Quran.

The celestial bodies that inhabit our Solar System and the universe at large are in themselves signs of the creation. The Moon orbits the blue-green orb we call home. In the same way, the Earth makes its own way around the Sun, taking our natural satellite with it. From this vantage point on the Moon, Earth appears as the Moon does from Earth. Putting into stark perspective how small and insignificant we actually are in the great scheme of things.

This truth was alluded to in the Quran. Surah al Anbiyah in verse 33 states, "It is He Who created the Night and the Day and the sun and the moon: all (the celestial bodies) swim along each in its rounded course. "

14” X 10” (36cm x 26cm approx.) Acrylic on Canvas. Ready to hang.
