I can not believe it has been two years since my last blog post. The last two years have seen some major changes, for me professionally and internationally due to the chaos of the Covid epidemic. However I will talk about these in other blog entries. This post is about my first attempt at organising an Art event.
During the last week of Ramadan violence unfortunately erupted in Gaza once again. It was all over the social media and mainstream news. As a community we felt helpless. We wanted to help but what could we do? In the last ten nights Islam Channel and British Muslim TV held their usual charity appeals but this time they were more urgent, more real.
Inspired by the amazing efforts of the volunteers and donators to these appeals I decided to try and organise a similar event. But how? What on Earth could I do? I knew it had to be art related in some way.
After much deliberation with other artists with their help I decided to organise an Art Show/ Auction and to host it entirely on line. This seemed like the logical solution due to Covid Restrictions.
The initial announcement went out on Instagram and the response was unbelievable. We had interest from all over the world. Artists from India, America, Britain and Europe clamoured to donate their work and get involved. By the time we were ready to go live with the event almost 40 international artists had become involved. I was completely flawed by the responses.
The work ranged from sculpture to Paintings was and was very diverse.
The event ran from the 21st through to the 27th June and raised an astounding £5134 for the needy of Gaza. This would not have been possible without the grace of Allah and the generousity and hard work of all the artists involved. I can never thank them enough for all their support, encouragement and hard work promoting the auction.
Due the astounding success of the auction this year In Sha Allah we will run it again in 2022. Watch this space.
